Volta Installs 2 Electric Vehicle Stations in Kahului

Volta Industries has added two additional electric vehicle charging stations on Maui, both at the Maui Mall in Kahului fronting Whole Foods Market.

The free stations bring to four the total number of EV stations run by Volta on Maui, and to 28 the total number of stations operated by the company across the state.

The other Maui locations were installed in June at Whaler’s Village in West Maui.

“EV drivers on Maui have expressed the need for more charging stations so we’re excited to make these new stations available,” said Arden Penton, Volta Director of Media and Operations in a press release statement.

“Based on the reception we’ve received with the stations, we continue explore further properties for installation and are scouting sites to provide this free popular charging service,” said Penton.

Company officials say each Level II station operated by Volta provides approximately 20 to 25 miles worth of range per hour of charging.

Volta also partners with local companies who sponsor a showcase on the front and back of the charging kiosks. The two Kahului stations were installed under a partnership with American Savings Bank and Rising Sun Solar, each of which are featured on the charging kiosks.

Whole Foods Market Kahului general manager Mark Martinez also commented saying the grocery store is thankful to have the free amenity on property.  “Volta’s EV stations support our green mission and sustainability goals. They also create a great incentive for our customers who can charge for free while they shop. Whole Foods is proud of our energy saving projects and these stations are a step in the right direction,” said Martinez in a press release.

Volta representatives cited state data saying that as of October 2014, there were 556 electric vehicles on Maui, with the average EV getting approximately 90 to 115 miles per gallon.
