Kauai Flood Warning expires, Flood Watch remains 12/27/10

A Flash Flood WARNING for the island of Kauai expired at 11:43 this morning. Kauai Police have also re-opened the Hanalei River Bridge. The bridge was closed at around 8 a.m. when flooding conditions made the area hazardous for driving. Forecasters from the National Weather Service say stream gages have lowered and heavy rains have subsided for the time being. A Flash Flood WATCH remains in effect for Oahu, Niihau and Kauai through Tuesday afternoon.

The Flash Flood WARNING for the island of Kauai has been extended until 11:45 a.m.  Just before 9 a.m., radar showed continuous moderate showers over the northern portion of the island.  The Hanalei Bridge remained closed due to flooding.  Other locations in the warning include but are not limited to Haena, Wainiha, Na Pali State Park, Kalalau Valley and Princeville.

The Hanalei Bridge on Kauai was closed at 8 a.m. due to flooding in the area.  There was also reports of minor flooding along Lele Road near Salt Pond in the Hanapepe area.  The road remained open to traffic at last report.

A flash flood watch is in effect for the Western portion of the state through Tuesday afternoon.

This morning, the National Weather Service issued a Flash Flood WARNING for the island of Kauai until 9 a.m. Stream gauges at the Hanalei River reached the 7-foot flood level just before 7 a.m., and water at the Wainiha River was expected to exceed flood levels by 7:30 a.m.

The warning includes Waimea, Poipu, Barking Sands, Na Pali State Park, Kalalau Valley, Princeville, Kokee State Park and Hanalei.
