Fallen trees downed power lines on Front Street in Lahaina this afternoon, knocking out power to customers from Lahaina town to Ukumehame, officials said.

Maui Electric Company spokesperson Kau’i Awai-Dickson said four main power lines were down on Front Street, and that crews were on scene working to repair and restore power as quickly and safely as possible.

The outage initially forced the closure of Front Street to motorists and pedestrians, between 300 Front Street and Shaw Street.

By 2:24 p.m., county officials said incremental power restoration was underway with power already restored to parts of the Honoapiilani Highway, Wainee Street, Mill Street, Shaw Street, and Ipu Wai Street.  Customers in parts of Front Street and laterals out to Launiupoko remained without power.
