Helicopter Crew Rescues Visitor Lost in Molokai Forest

A man hiking in the Molokai Forest Reserve on Sunday afternoon, was airlifted to safety when he became lost in the mountainous terrain.

The 32-year-old male visitor was able to make contact with emergency personnel via a cell phone.

The incident was reported at 3:55 p.m., and the man was located uninjured at around 6 p.m.

Responding crews from the Maui Fire Department’s Air 1 helicopter and Rescue 10 crew extricated the man.  He was dropped off at his Jeep where ground crews from Engine 4 were able to meet up with him and gather further information.

The mountain search and rescue operation was coordinated with the help of Molokai Dispatch.
